I-95 south: One lane open and periodic stoppages after midnight
Southbound lanes begin closing at 9:30 p.m.; use HOV lanes
ALEXANDRIA - Motorists can expect delays on I-95 south just past Lorton (Exit 163) between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. tonight and tomorrow night, June 29-30, while crews replace an overhead sign structure, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes will be open to all traffic heading south until 3 a.m.
VDOT will close two regular southbound lanes at 9:30 p.m. A single southbound lane will remain open to traffic. All three lanes of I-95 south will be closed for up to 30 minutes just after midnight and again between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
This work is related to the I-95 widening project. The fourth southbound lane is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010. The entire project will be completed in fall 2011.
