HOV Lanes Closed Friday Night through Sunday Evening for Construction and the Marine Corps Marathon

Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on I-395/95 from the Washington, D.C., line to the end at Dumfries Road (Route 234), beginning at 11 p.m. Friday night, October 24 through 7 p.m. Sunday, October 26. While construction crews will be off the roadway by 12 p.m. Sunday, the HOV lanes will remain closed to accommodate the Marine Corps marathon. The HOV lanes will reopen to traffic heading in the northbound direction by 7 p.m.

The lane closures are needed to continue the installation of overhead structures, paving, and pulling fiber optic lines throughout the entire HOV facility for the ongoing construction of the 95 Express Lanes Project. Motorists will be directed to use the general purpose lanes. The Express lanes are scheduled to open in December of this year; all motorists will be required to have transponder to use the lanes.
