Route 123 on-ramp to I-495 reopened

ALEXANDRIA— All four lanes of I-495 north have shifted to the right onto a new bridge over Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), Exit 46, in Tysons Corner. Shifting northbound Beltway traffic allowed for the reopening of the Route 123 north on-ramp to I-495 north and the removal of the left turn lanes and traffic signal. Since last Oct. 2010, motorists traveling in both directions on the Beltway have shared the new southbound bridge over Route 123.

Crews have also restored the left lanes on Route 123 in both directions at I-495 bringing the roadway back to full capacity with three through lanes and reconfigure the ramp from I-495 north to Exit 46A, Route 123 south. This ramp will be one lane with the merge lane restored on Route 123 and the traffic signal removed.

As part of the Capital Beltway HOT Lanes Project, in Oct. 2010, crews closed the Route 123 north to I-495 north ramp and installed the traffic signals to start rebuilding the I-495 north overpass. This work was originally scheduled to occur into late 2012 and is being delivered ahead of schedule.
