Leesburg Pike (Route 7) bridge demolition closing I-495 and nearby ramps
New bridge opens; former eastbound bridge under demolition
ALEXANDRIA — Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes crews are demolishing the former Leesburg Pike (Route 7) bridge over I-495. Expect nighttime delays in this area as demolition continues. Motorists should expect lane closures and detours on weeknights and weekends along Route 7 and in both directions on I-495 starting around 9:30 p.m.
- I-495 north and south at Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) - Full roadway closure Wednesday night, Aug. 4, for utility relocation. Expect three full intermittent road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
- I-495 south to Exit 47B, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east - Ramp closed Tuesday - Wednesday nights Aug. 3-4, for bridge demolition. DETOUR
- Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west to I-495 south - Ramp closed Tuesday-Wednesday nights, Aug. 3-4, for bridge demolition. DETOUR
- Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east to I-495 north - Ramp closed Monday night, Aug. 2, for bridge demolition. DETOUR
- I-495 north to Exit 47A, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west - Ramp closed Monday night, Aug. 2, for bridge demolition. DETOUR
Demolition work is expected to continue through mid-August, weather permitting. Once the demolition is complete, work will begin to rebuild a new eastbound bridge and build the future HOT Lanes connection at Route 7.
