All Braddock Road lanes shifted onto new bridge
ALEXANDRIA— The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) shifted all Braddock Road traffic to a new bridge crossing I-495 as part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project.
For the next 14 to 18 months, motorists will have two eastbound lanes over the bridge with a temporary traffic signal from I-495 south to Braddock Road remaining in place. Motorists traveling westbound will have two through lanes and one merge lane. The temporary traffic signal from I-495 north to Braddock Road will be removed and motorists will now merge onto Braddock Road west via the merge lane.
Once all traffic is on the new bridge, night work begins to demolish the old bridge. There will be lane closures and detours in this area throughout the spring and summer. Once the demolition is complete, work will begin to rebuild a new eastbound Braddock Road bridge.

Motorist Note: Bridge work is underway at 12 of the Capital Beltway’s interchanges inside the HOT Lanes Project work zone between the Springfield Interchange and just north of the Dulles Toll Road throughout the spring, summer and fall. These new bridges and interchange connections are part of the $260 million infrastructure replacement in support of the $1.4 billion Capital Beltway HOT Lanes project. The project is on schedule for completion in late 2012/early 2013.
