LORTON ROAD EXIT RAMP ON I-95 SOUTH
CLOSED OVERNIGHT SUNDAY AND MONDAY
VDOT paving southbound lanes; detour in place

ALEXANDRIA—Tonight, Monday Oct. 23, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Exit 163, Lorton Road, from I-95 south for paving and milling. These closures are in place to allow room for crews to finish paving the fourth southbound lane of I-95 and realign the exit and entrance ramps.

VDOT crews will begin closing Exit 163 at 10:30 p.m. and will reopen at 5 a.m. In addition to the ramp closure, the ramp from Lorton Road to I-95 south will have intermittent stoppages.

For motorists heading to Lorton, the following detour will be in place:

Continue south on I-95 to Richmond Hwy. south (Route 1),  left exit, right on Route 123 to I-95 north back to Lorton Road.

Also, ramps from I-95 south to Exit 166, Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100) north and south will close Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. for milling, paving and striping. Motorists will be directed to continue south, take Exit 163, Lorton Rd. (Route 642) east, left at the light, follow signs to I-95 north and take Exit 166 to the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100).  The ramp from Route 7100 north to I-95 south will also be closed these two night. These motorists will be directed to continue north, take the Barta Rd. exit, make a left, follow signs to Fairfax County Pkwy (route 7100) south and follow signs to I-95 south.

Thess ramps closure is part of the three-phased I-95 widening project, scheduled for completion in late 2011. VDOT opened a portion of the northbound lane last December, which was two weeks ahead of schedule. The additional southbound lane should save southbound motorists 10 to 20 minutes to get to Occoquan. The fourth lane in each direction on the Occoquan River Bridge will open in 2011.
