IDYLWOOD ROAD BRIDGE OVER CAPITAL BELTWAY CLOSED FOR RECONSTRUCTION
Oak Street bridge over I-495 is now open!
ALEXANDRIA—The Idylwood Road Bridge over the Capital Beltway has closed for reconstruction until late 2010/early 2011, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. While the two-lane bridge is demolished and rebuilt, motorists traveling to Idylwood Road will be directed to use either Leesburg Pike (Route 7) to Gallows Road or Lee Highway (Route 29) to Gallows Road.
For the next two weeks, Capital Beltway motorists should expect weeknight and weekend lane closures near the Idylwood Road overpass in both directions on I-495 from 9:30 p.m. through 5 a.m. Demolition work that does not impact traffic will also occur during the day.
The new two-lane bridge will be slightly wider to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists. Idylwood Road crosses but does not intersect with the beltway. It is located between the I-66 and Route 7 interchanges. The Oak Street bridge will reopen prior to the closure of Idylwood Road.

The work is part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project.
