LEE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 29) BRIDGE DEMOLITION
AND I-66 WEST TRAFFIC SHIFT THIS WEEK
Expect delays and overnight lane closures

ALEXANDRIA— Motorists are advised of the following work starting next week on the Capital Beltway I-495 High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project. All work is weather permitting.

Bridge Demolition: Lee Highway (Route 29)

This week, motorists should expect three lanes closed overnight on northbound I-495 and temporary total closures of all lanes after midnight lasting up to 30 minutes for Lee Highway bridge demolition. Once crews complete the demolition over northbound I-495 work will progress over to southbound I-495.

Traffic Shift: I-66 west over I-495 north and south

On or about October 22, crews will shift all three westbound I-66 lanes to the left onto two new bridges over the beltway.  Expect overnight lane closures in this area prior to the traffic shift to apply pavement markings for the new bridge tie-in. Once westbound I-66 traffic is shifted to the new bridges, crews will begin demolition of the old I-66 bridges.
