Roadway closures planned for Tysons Corner
Beltway at Route 7 and Route 123
ALEXANDRIA— The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is planning two major roadway impacts in the Tysons Corner area beginning March 1, weather permitting. Motorists should expect delays approaching these areas as noted below:
I-495 and Route 7
On southbound I-495 just before Leesburg Pike (Route 7), VDOT will close the Capital Beltway nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday-Friday, March 1-5 to allow crews to install steel beams for a new bridge at Route 7 over the Capital Beltway. This is the first week of nightly closures in this area which are expected to occur through March. DETOUR MAP
Weather permitting, one lane will close at 9:30 p.m. and by 11 p.m. through traffic will be detoured to exit onto Route 7 west and back to I-495 south. Police will be on site to direct traffic. Motorists should also expect lane closures on I-495 north near Route 7 for steel installation. This work is part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project.
Route 123
VDOT will close Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123) northbound at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) overnight beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 5 until 10 a.m. Saturday morning, March 6 for crews to install a new 20-inch waterline. This work is part of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.
Weather permitting, lane closures on Route 123 will start near Colshire Drive and motorists will be detoured onto Anderson Road to Chain Bridge Road, to Great Falls Street and then back to Route 123 northbound. Police will be onsite to direct traffic. Route 123 northbound access to I-66 eastbound via the Dulles Connector Road will remain open. Should inclement weather cancel this closure the work will be rescheduled for Saturday night, March 6. For more details click here.
