I-495 HOT LANES OVERNIGHT CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULED

Expect overnight closures  

ALEXANDRIA— The Virginia Department of Transportation announces several overnight travel impacts scheduled for Monday night, Dec. 27 through Thursday morning, Dec. 30, as part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project. The following locations will be affected: 

  • I-495 south at I-66: Each night, Monday, Dec. 27, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., crews will close three lanes of I-495 south at I-66 starting at 9:30 p.m. with a total closure by 10 p.m. Detour: All traffic will be directed to exit 49, I-66 west, to Nutley St. south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 east, then follow signs back to I-495 south.
  • I-495 north at Gallows Road (Route 650): Each night, Monday, Dec. 27 through Wednesday, Dec. 29, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., crews will close three lanes of I-495 north at Gallows Road. Note: Temporary I-495 north at Gallows Road stoppages for up to 30 minutes after midnight for steel bridge beam placement will occur.
  • I-495 north and south at Little River Turnpike (Route 236): Each night, Monday, Dec. 27 through Wednesday, Dec. 29, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., crews will close three lanes of I-495 north and south at Little River Turnpike. Note: Temporary stoppages on I-495 north and south at Little River Turnpike for up to 30 minutes after midnight for steel bridge beam placement will occur.

Holiday Travel Note: All lane closures will be suspended starting at noon on Thursday, Dec. 30 through 9:30 a.m., Jan. 3, 2011.

*Winter weather can have frequent impacts on planned lane closures. Expect closures to be rescheduled to account for inclement weather. Media will be notified and this web site will be updated: http://vamegaprojects.com/closures
