Southbound Route 1 ramp goes to single lane in morning hours

ALEXANDRIA - Each morning over the next several weeks, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close one lane on the off ramp from the I-95 HOV reversible southbound lanes to Route 1.

This lane will be closed weekdays from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. so crews can rebuild the Route 1 overpass bridge. Construction will be on the southbound overpass but the HOV lanes will be heading north at that time. The Route 1 off ramp from I-95 south will remain open.

This overpass rebuilding operation is expected to last for several weeks but due to the timing involved, it will not disrupt the morning commute. The southbound HOV reversible lanes will be open prior to when the HOV lane directions are changed from northbound to southbound. Nonetheless, motorists are recommended to be alert through this area.
