Two more I-66 lanes opening at Gainesville on March 29
VDOT is nearing completion on widening two miles of I-66, from the Route 234 Bypass to Route 29 in Gainesville. Two lanes are being added in each direction, one regular and one HOV lane. The inside lane will be HOV-2 eastbound in the morning and westbound in the afternoon. Construction includes rebuilding the bridges and ramps at I-66 and Route 29. By Monday, March 29, motorists will have all four of the westbound lanes, and by mid-May, eastbound I-66 will be in its final configuration. Expect daytime lane closures when the final surface asphalt is placed this spring. Highway lighting will be finished in June. Project will be completed by August.
